NORTH EAST INDIAN ISSUE

1.   Eight states: Arunanchal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura.
2.   These North Eastern states share border with China, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar and Bangladesh and shares only 21 km of its border to the rest of India via Chicken’s neck.
3.   North Indian states are isolated from the rest of India and has nevr been the part of poltical India. Sikkim was protectorate in 1947 and full state in 1975.
4.   The northeastern states with just 25 out of a total of 543 seats in the Lok Sabha are politically insignificant in Delhi.

5.   North East is the stronghold of Christianity in India. This has led to the proliferation of terrorist groups with primarily Christian cadres like the NLFT[10], NFDB[11] and NSCN[12]Due to these factors there is discontent and demands for independence are being raised by the Nagas, ULFA, and Bodos. Soon after Sino-Indian War of 1962 and especially after the rise of insurgency in the region, security influence on policies has increased.
